The borderline
Maggie is a grandmother for good, despite turning into a Soho Irina Palm is the sorceress of sex manual. Maggie retains its air of dignified and respectable lady while province is also illuminated by the neon signs of the night clubs, or while preparing to work in a club the red light that animate the confusing darkness of London. Irina Palm does not exist. Irina Palm is a vehicle to Maggie to try to see his dream realized: the healing of that grandchild long been ill, hope to catch a spark of health in the look fresh and weakened by the illness of that child which is so closely linked. There is vulgarity in the gestures of Maggie, there's nothing scandalous in its choice of clients masturbate sexy club where she works is just a method as any to solicit money and nothing is too much when there's dance the life of a child. Garbarski about love and does so by addressing the feeling as clean as possible: one that binds a woman to his nephew. When the sweet and loving grandmother of Le Temps Reste here was addressed to whisper of confessions, here Maggie promises to reveal the truth to his grandson only once grown, protecting them from a secret hard to unravel and especially protecting incomprehension. The prevailing bigotry is often swept away by a decision from a screenplay so thin as a strongly reaffirm the morality of the choices of the protagonist. La stessa vergogna che la donna prova nei primi giorni di lavoro, quando teme che la sua attività “illecita” possa essere scoperta dai his fellow citizens and her friends will dissolve gradually, tempered by an awareness of the normality of the situations you find yourself facing humanity and its surroundings (the fellow single mother, the tough boss of the ways that hide its vulnerabilities and His tenderness). The famous choice between being and appearance, inflated to the cinema but also elsewhere, is in the film Garbarski a new (but certainly not innovative) declination. Irina Palm is not a film that shatters the fences of indifference, but at least try to break through with the originality of a story that seems incredibly sincere. There is irony in narrated comedy or petty vicissitudes: the smile, light and especially bitter, stems from the awareness of a difficult reality to accept, that is not ordered as morally orthodox but who is given the task to stimulate the desire for reflection. Life of Maggie's family, already weakened by the illness of a child, was further shaken by the unexpected nature of the choice of the woman, because the money does not bring happiness, but surely help to achieve it. Undoubtedly then Garbarski convoluted cards, find the turning sentimental in a sweet and chaste love set in the local red-light and folds up a bit 'too happy ending: this remains that Irina Palm (whose subtle reflections vaguely recall the sensitivity almodovariana) able to deal gracefully with a theme "uncomfortable" (or what purports to be) wiped out every idea "outrageous" and a sweet natural coloring rather a complex and tortuous. While the drama is soundproofed by the grace of the play, is spread in the air the pounding beat of the music screw on which the dancers lap-dance sound that mixes with groans of the customers of a sexy club. In Maggie's mind, however, there is no place for vulgarity. A vase of flowers on the work table, a film gate on the wall that la separa dagli uomini che “aiuta” e un sorriso stampato negli occhi: quello di suo nipote.
